True leadership is a never-ending experience of personal and professional evolution and does not happen overnight. Even if your job title doesn’t indicate so, you are likely a leader in some respect in some aspect of your life. Leadership doesn’t mean you have to hold an official position in your organization. Leaders come from all aspects of life and are needed at every level from family to work to hobbies and interests.

People are rarely properly trained to become leaders. Even when the desire to lead and help others exists, it can take decades to develop a methodology that works for you and those you lead. Team members are really counting on you to lead them, not manage them.

Tom will share personal experiences he’s had with different employees, as well as some tools, tips, and techniques he uses on a daily basis to help his teams be successful. We’ll discuss how these and other leadership tools are used to help others grow their careers -- how to keep people engaged in their work, their team, and their career.

While not a prerequisite, you may gain more insight from the virtual event if you first watch Tom’s recorded presentation from the SupportWorld Live August 2020 virtual conference. Even if you don’t have the opportunity to view the presentation, come to the virtual event to join the discussion.

About our speaker:

Tom Wilk is the PC Engineering manager at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Computer Science in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Even though he works for a very technical area he has become a performance improvement leader helping employees find their way along their career path. Recently he has started mentoring others and consulting to help others become performance management leaders.

Tom currently serves as the interim VP of Sponsorship in the Steel City Chapter in Pittsburgh after holding the VP of Programs for two years and President for one year. He is also the Committee Chair for National Sponsorship Programs for HDI Local Chapters and the Committee Chair for the 2021 Local Chapter Officer Leadership Summit.
