Power of Giving and Receiving Recognition
One of the benefits of this HDI community is the way the annual awards program brings the power of recognition to life. I remember the very first time I saw someone give their acceptance speech at the national conference on stage in front of more than two thousand people. I got chills and even shed a few tears of joy. But I could only imagine how they felt and what their experience was like.
Join us this month for our HDI Virtual Community for our special Moderated Panel event, where we welcome two of our national award winners and two IT managers who understand the importance of recognizing their best people every year.
We invite you to share your ideas, stories, and perspective on how you like to be recognized, and the role that celebrating your efforts has played in your career so far. Then, hear from our panelists share their experience and recent lessons learned.

Drew Mclaughlin - 2022 Best Service and Support Technician - Drew is a Service Center Specialist for Northwestern Mutual working in the Wisconsin area campus walk-up spaces. He started in late 2019 as a phone-support technician after graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a BS of Information Science and Technology. After a few months of being a phone technician, becoming HDI certified, and expressing interest in the Walk-Up team – Drew became a full-time walk-up technician in 2020 prior to COVID. He currently is managed by Brew City HDI’s own Jill Weber. Drew has noted that they have aspirations of assuming some form of leadership/managerial role where they can help build and direct a team to best serve their customers’ needs.
Danny (Daniel) Neu - 2022 Best Service and Support Analyst - A relative newcomer to the IT Industry, I spent more than a decade working for a Church organization, building teams to support live production events for youth and young adults from around the world. When that journey came to and end, I had to reinvent myself. I leaned on my love of people and a knack for technology and computing to find myself at Unisys. For the past 5 years I have walked down the path of Service Desk operations as a level 1 analyst and currently a Team manager at Unisys in Augusta GA.
Jill Weber is currently the manager of onsite, face to face technical support teams (WI/NY Walk-Up locations, AV tier 1, embedded support called Digital Wizards) within the Technology Service Center, part of the Technology Customer Success organization at Northwestern Mutual.
Her journey includes having an Associate Degree in Graphic Design, Bachelors in Business Management and a successful bowling career including being a professional bowler that toured the country for over seven years (including a win in New Orleans many years ago).
She has been part of HDI in which she is a local chapter officer for over 15 years. She has presented at several HDI Support World Live conferences. She is very proud of one of her technicians, Drew McLaughlin, for winning the Best Service and Support Technician award last year.
Wendy Wagner is an End User Support Manager in the IT Department at Shurtape Technologies headquartered in Hickory, NC. She has completed the HDI Support Center Manager training course, participated in the HDI Northcoast Chapter in Ohio before relocating to NC, and is currently on the HDI Virtual Community Leadership Team.
Wendy is a supporter of Shurtape’s Recognition program and a firm believer that recognizing people helps them see their contributions are valued, increases motivation, promotes excellence, boosts retention and fosters a positive workplace.
